Fr Godfrey Cup Semi-Final
St Patrick’s Classical School, Navan 13 CUS 8 January 29th 2013I know it’s a cliché but the JCT can be rightly proud of their battling and spirited performance today against a huge St Pats team in awful conditions at Ballycorus today. St Pats raced into a 3 point league after 1 minute but we had most of the possession for the rest of the half as conditions deteriorated at Ballycorus. The pack led by Captain Sam Butler and ably supported by Bill Perryman, Shane Power, Dylan O’Halloran, Brendan Meehan, Brian Sheil and Peter McEvoy took the game to St Pats. However after 20 minutes St Pats took advantage of a line break to score the first try of the game. We hit back with a penalty from James Cox after 25 minutes. Unfortunately we had lost our two-try hero from the previous round Mikey Holloway and Bill Perryman to injury by this stage.Playing into a gale the score at half-time 8-3 seemed very respectable.
In the second half the rain started while the wind continued Pats played well keeping the ball close to the touchline. Their impressive no 6 took most lineout ball or in some way disrupted our lineout. Serious pressure from the St Pats forwards saw them score "an up your jumper” try. Nonetheless with one of our players yellow-carded for a "professional foul” we took the game to St Pats and were rewarded with a try by no 8 Shane Power. Unfortunately we could not maintain our momentum and St Pats held on to win 13-8. Best of luck to St Pats in the final and hard luck to the lads who can rightly hold their head up high today.
