CUS Union President, John Cranfield launches the union Benevolent Fund

CUS Union President, John Cranfield launches the union Benevolent Fund
5 June 2017
To my fellow past pupils...

In these times of economic growth following what can only be described as a major worldwide financial meltdown, there are individuals who have been both badly hit financially and left in poor circumstances.

There are also individuals who perhaps, due to many unforeseen circumstances, both personal and business, have been less fortunate than most, and are surviving within the poverty zone.

Your union has decided to do something about such circumstances, particularly where former pupils of our School are concerned.

The CUS union Benevolent Fund has been founded.  The Fund's initial Trustees are Messrs Kevin Jennings ( in his capacity as Chair of Marist Education Authority), Dr. Michael Moriarty, Dr. Gerry Ormond, and Mr. Sean Sexton.   We thank all the aforementioned for undertaking the role in this new Fund.

The Benevolent Fund is initially being funded by your union and the Marist Order.  On behalf of the Union, I would wish to express my thanks to Fr. Edwin McCallion for his very generous and positive efforts in this regard.

It is the Union's objective, and the Benevolent Fund's mandate, to assist in financial, and other, terms pupils and former pupils of our School when required or necessary because of poverty, distress, hardship or like circumstances or on account of old age or infirmity, or lack of means of support.

All transactions within this Fund will be totally confidential between the individual concerned and a Benevolent Fund representative, soon to be appointed by the Fund's Trustees.

With the launch of the Fund, it is quite obvious that financial support is necessary from former pupils who are in a position to do so.

I am therefore requesting donations from our former pupils in order to push forward with this very worthwhile project. Your union is in position to make an initial significant contribution, and it will be really appreciated should former pupils buy into this initiative by making financial contributions at this point.   Your union will be making ongoing future contributions from surpluses made following union activities.

I well appreciate the many demands on us all in these times, however I would appreciate should former pupils see their way in making some financial contribution to this very worthwhile initiative.

I thank you for your consideration.  Contributions can be made directly to the Catholic University School Benevolent Association bank account, (details of which will be provided here in the next couple of weeks) or by sending a cheque payable to CUS Union Benevolent Fund to CUS Union c/o Eileen Gillespie 89 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2 or by clicking the Benevolent Fund donation link on the left column.

I do also look forward to meeting with as many former pupils as possible at many of the upcoming events  between now and year end.

Kind regards,

John Cranfield
Union President.
