CUS Golf Report – August 22nd

The Union Cup is the oldest continuous running Schools Golf cup in Ireland - since 1912. Here's the 2024 report...

The 2024 Union Cup Golf was played in Milltown Golf Club on Thursday 22nd August.

With over 60 golfers, it went off with a full tee sheet in calm dry conditions benefiting the early starters of Matthew Tonge, Mark Tonge & Ben Lockhart.

However as the last group went out at 4pm, the dark clouds we have become so used to this summer were on the horizon and a soft rain descended from about 5.30pm making the back 9 difficult for late starters and promising 1st 9 totals and hopeful golfers had their cards diminish in the final holes in the wet conditions.

Thanks to the many Sponsors including Snap Docklands, Candlewarehouse.ie, Azets Accountants, Murphy Mullan Estate Agents, Liam Daniel, Dave Robb, Sean Sexton, Gerry Ormond, John Cranfield and especially the headline sponsors Fresh The Good Food Market who also put up a €300 voucher for a Hole in One – which wasn’t won.

And the results….

Winner – 38 Points – Matthew Tonge

Overall runner up – 36 points – Michael Dawson

Hogan Cup (18+ Handicap) – 36 points – Ken O’Farrell
